Voces Inocentes (movie!)

We saw the movie Voces Inocentes (Innocent Voices) Monday evening... It is a Mexican movie in the sense that the director and actors are Mexican, but it takes places in El Salvaddor during their civil war ('80s).

This movie is based on a child's account of what happened to him, his family, friends, and village during this period. Young boys, (as young as 8 years old) being taken from school, streets, and homes in order to be trained by the army to fight/kill the guerilla. If a young boy is captured with the guerilla, they too are executed by the army. The movie is brutal, raw, and unfortunately, real.

Sadly, while we "post", this type of atrocity is taking place world wide... It needs to be addressed and stopped!

On a personal note, when I first started teacing ('80), I had a student who was living with a foster family due to the civil war taking place in his country- El Salvador. I remember being told that this young boy aged 8/9 years old was traumatized from what he had experienced at home, and was here in the U.S. for fear of being killed in El Salvador. I don't know what became of him, or where he is now.
