Between Teacher and Child

by Dr. Haim Ginott

I have come to the fightening conclusion. I am the decisive element in the classroom. It is my personal approach that creates the climate. It is my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess tremendous power to make a child's life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or humor, hurt or hear. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated, a child humanized or dehumanized.

As a teacher, I want to "inspire"...

first of all, i'm sure you would LOVE John Mayer...

but besides that, I have to tell you, teachers do inspire if they want to. sometimes you can't do much if a student just has an attitude, but just like we say in El Salvador "de tanto ir el cantaro al agua se rompe" at the end they might give in.

freedom writers :)
(if you haven't seen the movie or read the book, you have to!)

Hey Coco,

Thanks for always visiting my blog!

Since you're in California (right?)you can probably access the radio show any time after 8:30 Central time, which is still early for you.

Thanks for wanting to listen! It's a great radio show. I hope that it gets nationwide attention since it can be heard on the internet. I just received confirmation that it is definitely on the 13th.

Me alegra saber cual es tu decisión, porque esa es la verdadera opción de una buena profesora :). Ya imaginaba yo que era así..

So true. I remember being a kid and going into the classroom wondering what kind of mood my teacher was in that day. Because that would govern what kind od day we had. It's so great that you care so much about your kids.
