Frustrated

I'm frustrated, upset, and STRESSED!
I constantly find myself praying (and crying) that God take my aunt...
then I feel "guilty" (that I have sinned) for feeling this way.

Yesterday, at her doctor's appointment, I signed the Do Not Ruscitate form...
She is 84, has dementia, but other than that, she's fine!
There is NOTHING wrong with her!!
It's just us, her caretakers, that are not doing too well...

I asked her doctor what our options were regarding her "care"...
His response was, "Yes, it's difficult taking care of someone as your aunt, but unfortunately, something (heart attack, stroke, etc) needs to happen to her before any nursing care facility can take her in".

Wlhat?! (I sighed and tried to relax so that I wouldn't burst out in tears.) So in the meantime, we the caretakers, go "crazy" and have a heart attack!! (high blood pressure)

Paying for private nursing care is too expensive for both my sister and I...

A friend suggested we try to find some sort of Senior Citizen Social Worker...
She also said that she would do the searching for us. : )

*positive note
i can cry with my friends
it's great having supportive friends

Friends can definitely make our sometimes chaotic world a much better place to be.

Muchos abrazos y besos para ti!

Que Diosito te bendiga y te protege.

Caring for a loved one with a chronic disease is always very difficult. You begin to let yourself go. Try to make yourself as comfortable as possible. Take a moment for yourself or you will go nuts. Perhaps, you can try looking at city services thru your city hall. Sometimes they offer nurses to come in for free and look after your loved one to give you time to do the things you need to do and offer counseling services. Plz feel feel free to email me if you need to just talk. abrazotes and good vibes.

I faced this with my grandmother. My sister and I signed her few assets away to the government so she would be safe(r) in a nursing home. This allowed her to be on Medicaid. We then had to dig into our own pockets for her to have essentials (clothes, toothpaste, kleenex, eye glasses, snacks, entertainment, etc.). Not that I mind spending the money, but it underscored how the whole system is infuriating! What happens to people who have no family? I saw it. They are stripped of their dignity. They do without basic toiletries (save their weekly bath at the nursing home), and they wear hand-me-downs of deceased patients, or worse, hospital gowns.

You are doing the right thing, faced with a broken system.

Take care, Coco...
