Bambi, the movie

A few of my third graders thought they were too big to see Bambi. They actually whined and complained saying that it was a "baby" movie. What?!

Then I reminded myself that they are probably used to seeing "R" rated movies that contain language, violence, and subject matter not appropriate for children. Yet these movies were seen with parent permission!

It turns out that not one of my students had ever seen this classic. How sad.

Despite their initial outcry, everyone enjoyed today's "treat", except for 1 student whom I sent out to another class for being disruptive and rude. He is very obnoxious...a "thug" in the making, unfortunately.

And what did this movie have to do with 3rd grade curriculum or standards?
We are currently reading 2 Days in May by Harriet Peck Taylor which tells the story about a community helping the deer by taking them to a wildlife refuge.

*i cried throughout the movie

One of the things I've learned working at Pretrial is that the kiddies these days have almost no exposure to culture at all. It's sad.

thats sad indeed! Cos even tho Im an adult, I still would love to see Bambi and would enjoy it too. I know I will.

Today's young generation is totally different. They enjoy the MAX of sex, violence etc in movies, music etc. And MEDIA is to be blamed for that, isnt it.

ugh. what has happened to western 'civilization' ?? Something is wrong when a 8 year old knows who Kim Kardashian is (I still can't figure out why she's famous) but hasn't seen a classic like BAMBI!!! Depressing, really....
