Anything Else?

My (85 year old/dementia) aunt is in the hospital. Yes, the aunt that just this week entered a Residential Board & Care Facility...

I've had no rest! Just when I thought things were falling into place, and life was a little less stressful- WHAM!! Stress.

She has a "urinary tract" infection (UTI), but because of her age, her body can't fight infections very well. Thankfully, she is responding well to antibiotics, and so far ALL her tests have come back "negative"!! YAY!! They are, though, testing her Carotid Artery tomorrow.

She is NOT diabetic, nor does she have High Blood Pressure, or High Cholesterol...and her heart (EKG) is fine. Her doctors and nurses can't believe it (nor can we)- the ONLY meds she takes are for anxiety, and for sleep. That's it!!

How did she do it? "Healthy" habits? No! She started smoking at a very young age, and never liked or ate "healthy" - good for you foods!! A mystery. We, her family, are in awe of her good health despite her dementia.

Hi ,

I was reading ur blog posts and found some of them to be very good.. u write well.. Why don't you popularize it more.. ur posts on ur blog ‘Teacher Estrella’ took my particular attention as some of them are interesting topics of mine too;

BTW I help out some ex-IIMA guys who with another batch mate run www.rambhai.com where you can post links to your most loved blog-posts. Rambhai was the chaiwala at IIMA and it is a site where users can themselves share links to blog posts etc and other can find and vote on them. The best make it to the homepage!

This way you can reach out to rambhai readers some of whom could become your ardent fans.. who knows.. :)

You can also win an exciting t-shirt by winning the contest which is going on in rambhai.com…. hurry up the contest is from 10 – 24 august…

Cheers,

I find it very interesting. I have a couple uncles in Mexico who smoke, drink and are well into their 80s now. The one thing they all have in common, is exercise. They're not the going to the gym and exercise but just daily exercise. Walking everywhere, and some still work out in the fields.

Try to relax. Things have their way of working out.

I remember seeing an old gentleman on Johnny Carson when I was young. He smoked a cigar daily and loved whiskey. He was 102 and the only thing he did unusual, was to drink a shot of Worcestershire sauce when he gotup in the morning. I tried it once and decided I did not want to be 102.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and your well wishes. Mine go out to you, your sister, and your lovely Tia.

I had an aunt who managed to live to 85 and require NO MEDS.
I've decided one of the signs of life's goodness to you is how few medications you go out with.

I think my grandparents have lucked out too. They're 86 and 88 and still kicking -- though they're on a bunch of meds and gotta see a different specialist every week. They worked a lot, but ate a very Mexican diet. My grandpa also drank too. I'm not sure about smoking, but I don't think they did that.
