Chapulines!

Acabo de comer chapulines! Y qué creen? ¡Me gustarón!

I just ate grasshoppers! No, this does not in any way make me a candidate for Survivor or Fear Factor- not a chance!

Let me clarify- Yes, they're real grasshoppers (small size) and dead. While being cooked/sauteed, chile, alittle bit of salt and lime were added to the chapulines for extra flavor. It's an indiginous food, native to Oaxaca, Puebla, and México City. I don't know about the other neighboring states... Anyway, they're "crunchy".

Mi amiga fue al estado de Oaxaca en México y se trajo una bolsita de chapulines...crujientes, picantes, picositos y con un toque de limón- sólo faltaba la tortilla. No estan mal, ¿gustan?

My friend gave me some "chapulines" to bring home so that I may share with my hubby, but he doesn't want to try them... As it is, he already thinks I eat "weird" food- such as taquitos de lengua, morcilla, etc. Anyway, the "chapulines" aren't bad at all. I do, however, think they'll taste better in a tortilla. So if you happen to see "Chapulines" at your nearest supermarket, try them! Enjoy!

I'd love to try chapulines! When I was in Oaxaca I had the best salsa made of ormigas.
